Because science says so! (with proof)

It has been scientifically proven that when you have excess amount of stress in your blood stream, your cortisol levels increase (under normal circumstances, this is a part of our body's defense system) however, these cortisol levels that have increased over a prolonged period of time (often daily) can be very detrimental to our overall holistic well-being.

In fact, stress has been proven to shorten our lifespan as it begins to shorten our telomeres within our very own DNA. According to apa.org, Recent research suggests chronic stress damage starts before we're even conceived and cuts into our very cells. A number of studies have linked stress with shorter telomeres, a chromosome component that's been associated with cellular aging and risk for heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
